How to Play Klondike Solitaire

  1. The Goal: Move all cards to the four foundation piles in ascending order (Ace to King) by suit.
  2. The Layout: The game is played with seven columns of cards, known as the tableau. You can move cards between these columns.
  3. The Moves: Move cards onto a card of the next-highest rank and opposite color (e.g., a red 5 on a black 6).
  4. The Deck: When you run out of moves, draw cards from the stock pile to reveal new cards.
  5. The Foundations: Start each foundation with an Ace and build up to the King in the same suit.
Try to uncover face-down cards in the tableau as quickly as possible to open up more potential moves.

Klondike Solitaire Rules

Basic Rules

  • Tableau piles are built down by alternating colors.
  • Only a full sequence or a single card can be moved.
  • An empty tableau column can only be filled by a King.
  • The game is won when all cards are in the foundation piles.

Game Modes

  • Turn 1: An easier mode, perfect for beginners, where you draw one card at a time.
  • Turn 3: The classic, more challenging mode where you draw three cards at a time.
  • Most games are winnable, but it takes the right strategy!

Winning Strategies

Expose Hidden Cards

Your priority should be to turn over the face-down cards in the tableau. Every new card is a new opportunity.

Manage Empty Columns

Don't rush to empty a column unless you have a King ready to place there. An empty spot is a valuable strategic asset.

Don't Draw Too Soon

Always scan the entire tableau for possible moves before drawing from the stock pile.

Keep Colors in Mind

Try to build your foundation piles evenly to avoid trapping lower-ranked cards you might need later.

Sometimes the best move is to undo the last one to try a different path. Don't be afraid to experiment!
